Michael was the boss host, will return as he made it a memorable visit :) Happy Hour is Monday-Friday, 3:00-5:30pm. Small snacks menu, -$2 off signature cocktails and draft beers. My favorite here is the Bourbon Grilled Oysters - Chipotle chilies, garlic, butter, brown sugar & a touch of bourbon. They usually have a chef's choice raw oyster (ours was Miyagi for $2) during HH, and I like their condiments/garnishes: RUSTIC WASH Rice Vinegar, shallots, and jalapeños COCKTAIL SAUCE House-made cocktail sauce with fresh horseradish CHIPOTLE MIGNONETTE Chipotle peppers, red wine vinegar, peppercorns, shallots, cilantro, honey & black pepper There was a 4th one, some sort of really spicy horseradish which was great - use just a little along w the chipotle mignonette, and more horseradish if you want to clear your sinuses lol Crowd/vibe is as expected for downtown Los Altos. -1 star bc their bar had some used dish rags strewn out on the surfaces depending on where you're seated.
My mom and I were looking for a place to eat dinner in Los Altos and picked Rustic House based off reviews. For a Wednesday night, it was really busy and lively! Lots of people sitting at the bar, and at tables, but they were able to get us right in, and food came out fast. The margherita pizza was delicious, and so were the shrimp tacos. I also loved the clam chowder, it had a generous portion of clams and was really hearty and delicious. They have an extensive dessert menu! So many yummy options to chose from like crème brûlée, tiramisu, key lime pie, etc. Our server Alayna was so kind and helpful. Knowing that it was our first time dining there, she walked us through the menu and recommended a few items. I will definitely be making another trip to Los Altos to eat here again.
Rob provided the best recommendations and service! Thank you for the experience from Rob and the rest of the staff.
This review is specifically for the "Champagne tasting" held on 11/02. It's a great experience. I'm so impressed that there are 12 champagne suppliers and each brings 3-5 or even more champagnes for people to taste. The pour is generous and you basically can drink as much as you would like Appetizers are prepared by the French chef of the restaurant. At first, it's kind of slow going with the food, only cheese, crackers and some lunch meats are available. As the night goes on, more creative/upscale appetizers started to show up. The servers are great and polite. They hold food trays walking around the event space to offer appetizers for people. Although the restaurant is famous by its oysters, I thought the oysters offered at the event was just okay, doesn't taste fresh or flavorful. There are even raffles. A few bottles of champagne and gift cards are handedout to winners. How fun!
This was my family's first time at this restaurant and to think I've gone to the brie next-door for sandwiches for years and never noticed this particular spot! Lol goodness what have I been missing out!! We had a lovely waitress with a beautiful German accent, who actually has been serving for over 30 something years as a career!! She was incredibly knowledgeable, sweet, loves to garden and New the menu inside and out!! She also was very good at helping pair wines with our Dinner and desserts!! The environment was a little dark and rustic, lol but I really liked the cabin like environment and then they had a cool open looking bar area where you could definitely come and hang out! I would love to go there and just have a couple cocktails with appetizers and not a whole meal or dinner. Very very cool environment indeed! They also have a lit patio area that looks great for taking pictures with Food ! My family and I loved our meals and the fish was so fresh and delicious and perfectly done. We had to try all the oysters and all the sauces but I think my favorite one was the bourbon as well as the citrusy wine mixtures actually, I liked all of them now that I think about it! Lol so definitely get the oysters!! I had the seafood pasta and morsel of clam or seafood was perfectly cooked within the pasta and I wish I had asked for red pepper flakes and a loaf of bread to soak up that sauce, but it was delicious nevertheless!! Then we went dessert! Goodness, traditional, tiramisu with ladyfingers was perfectly eloquently layered and not too sweet and paired perfectly with an evening cappuccino or cuppa coffee! My boyfriend got the hazelnut chocolate cake, and that had a perfectly crisp layer to it, and I love the nuttiness!! I could definitely see myself coming here for dessert!! Oh, and I wasn't able to take a picture of the dining area or the bar because there were too many people in both areas! Lol I was afraid I would take a picture of somebody and they would say something to me. But I did get a picture of their patio area! Hee Overall, this place was amazing and I would love to come back here again!!
Came here for the oysters because I was craving them! The oysters definitely hit the spot for me. I had the scallop entree which was delicious. The sauce was nice and flavorful and the scallops were cooked well. I would definitely get the scallops again. The only miss was the octopus appetizer. It was laid on top of some sauce and grains. I think it was marinara sauce. I wasn't a fan, I don't think the flavors mixed well together. Our server was quick and very attentive and kind. We were seated inside, tucked away in the corner so it felt quiet and intimate for a date night with my partner.
[Food] - Raw Oysters (6 for $20.99): We got the Miyagi & the K oysters. They were fresh and my favorite pairing was with lemon, rustic wash and a bit of Tabasco sauce! - Grilled Oysters (6 for $22.99) Rustic House: The grilled rustic house oysters were delicious! I originally thought it might be a bit overpowering for me but the garlic, chives, butter, cayenne pepper & Parmigiano worked well together and this was one of the dishes I thoroughly enjoyed! - Poké Wonton Cups ($19.95): The tuna was decent, but overall was a tad too saucy and I don't feel like it was worth the price for the amount we got. The uncooked radish on top felt awkwardly placed there as it didn't help with the overall flavor. - Mahi Mahi ($31.95): The mash was pretty good but I feel they may have used a tad too much butter. The green zucchinis were a bit bitter but the yellow ones were fine. The unfortunate part was that the Mahi Mahi was pretty overcooked. - Cioppino Single ($34.95): I'm glad this was decently cooked and flavorful. All the seafood was cooked perfectly, not overcooked. Pasta was perfectly al dente. It was a bit small for the price even though I understand this is for a single person. i would say its saving grace is that they do give you more seafood than other places. [Service] - Friendly, attentive, helpful [Ambiance] - A nice rustic decorated restaurant with a bar, indoor and outdoor seatings [Overall] - I would come back for the oysters especially during happy hour! - Sadly the other dishes were pretty mediocre so I'd rate closer to a 3.5 but their servers were really friendly and attentive so I bumped it up.
A windy but pleasant day in Los Altos found us at this fine outdoor corner dining spot. All three of us ordered the Wild Alaskan Cod tacos and were not disappointed. Each plate came with two soft tacos along with small sides of rice and black beans. The cod pieces were fried and puffy but not greasy. Everything was fresh and delicious and we topped the meal off with a cream brûlée. Very tasty so we will probably return when we accumulate some extra cash because at this location the prices are a little steep. Our server was attentive and efficient. I think his name was David. We were all glad to be dining out again and watching all the people going by. Things seemed almost back to normal. Update---- We are still visiting this restaurant from time to time. The dessert is scrumptious, key lime pie with a nutty crust. Never tried it before but will order it again. Yum! Update---Still enjoying our lunch here from time to time. I ordered a Bay Shrimp Louie salad again and loved every bite. Plenty of shrimp, very fresh greens and just enough dressing. Very good and satisfying.
It is one of the nice places in Los Altos. The food is not bad, service is great and ambiance is perfect for get together. We ordered garlic bread, calamari and fried bay shrimp as appetizers. I just feel that the scallop is a bit on the greasy side, at least that's how the sauce tasted to me. The same goes for the mashed potato, too slick and couldn't taste the potato. I came here a few times for birthday celebrations, today was for graduation.
Oh my. For the win. I highly recommend coming here. The menu has something for everyone. The beet and salmon salad - A++++. It was perfect .. Makayla made wonderful suggestions and it really made the dining experience better . The Calimara was pretty good. And the artichokes are not something that we usually get . So we tried it . We were not disappointed. I'm glad we found this place on our morning walk. We will be by again. I suggest you stop by as well. We ate in the dining area, the bar looks pretty cozy as well. There's always next time . Happy New Year ...
